Conversations with strangers, strange conversations: both abound about the Crescent line bound for New York out of New Orleans (two cities unable to shirk the past through re-naming). The morning after boarding the train in Toccoa, GA I overhead a porter's conversation about a group of Amtrak workers who were pilfering foodstuffs from the lounge car - apparently there is a false wall somewhere between NO and NY stacked high with Jello Snakpaks...
